There are so many fancy cooking utensils and items on the market it can be overwhelming. Where do you start? What is essential and what can you do without? The answer to these questions is very individual. It depends on multiple factors including your finances, your preferences, how much time you have, how many people you are cooking for, and the food items you use for cooking.
So, what are more specific things to look for when buying fresh fruit? These are the main things I look for when choosing fruit by category:
Citrus Fruits - This includes lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, etc. I love it when my citrus fruits are juicy and just the right balance of sweet and sour. When I feel the outside of a citrus fruit I am assessing for that gentle “bounce back” that it can give. Try it for yourself and see if you notice it.
I love buying fruits! My early childhood years were spent in a tropical climate and I always had an abundance of tasty fruits to eat. Some of my earliest memories are of eating watermelon daily on the balcony, looking for lemons or mangos on the trees in my back yard, eating around the seeds of a guava, and finding dates on the ground under the palm trees by the water.
