Aging is a natural part of life - there is no magic pill that can stop us from the aging process. However, the way we choose to live can have a big impact on how we age. I believe in embracing life in all its stages and offer you solutions to age gracefully, vibrantly, and in optimal health.
The foods we eat and what we drink help to nourish our body and keep us functioning in so many ways - it provides us with energy, builds our cells and organs, can function as hormones, supports our immune system, aids in protection against harmful environmental exposures, helps with electrolyte balances, etc.
Our emotions can have a big impact on our physical health and our physical health can have a big impact on our emotions. Because the body is an interconnected WHOLE, what affects one part affects other parts as well. There are multiple reasons why you may be experiencing emotional distress: Anxiety or stress from work, school, family, or a relationship, grief from a recent loss of a loved one or a relationship break-up.
Hormone levels are constantly changing depending on the time of day, how active you are, stresses on your body, nutritional status, as well as your sex, genetics, and age. When hormones are in their normal range, your body functions properly. When they are out of balance, it can affect you on many levels such as sleep, weight, cognition, energy, physical appearance, and emotions.
Integrative medicine is the combination of both modern medical science and traditional healing modalities. I believe that both are important and useful in healing. I look at each person as an individual and provide solutions for your health based on what condition you are presenting with, the severity of your health condition, as well as what you are realistically able to do and willing to use for treatment.
Nervous System Support
The brain is such an amazing powerhouse that we rely on every day to help us function. It is where we store information, monitor our movements, make neurotransmitters and hormones for both brain and body functions, and is the seat of our emotions. Taking care of the brain is imperative for optimal health and long-term functioning. Certain disease processes such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia can increase the risk of harm to the brain over time by causing memory loss or stroke.
Nutrition is one of the foundations of health and it's a subject I am very passionate about. We need food and drink to survive and there are specific nutrients that are essential for the body to function and thrive. Not getting enough nutrients is harmful to the body, but it can be harmful to have too much nutrition as well. If you are interested in knowing more about having a balanced, healthy diet, need guidance on nutrition, shopping, reading ingredients and labels, planning a menu, or need recipe ideas I can help you.
Preventing diseases and health conditions from occurring in the first place is my main goal! I love working with the foundations of health: Air, Food, Hydration, Sleep, Environment, Exercise, Emotions, and Community because many diseases can be avoided or at least reduced in severity by working with these essentials for health. If you are ready to make foundational health changes then I am happy to help you with solutions that are specific to your needs and that you feel empowered to implement in your life.
Sexual & Reproductive Health
Sex and reproduction changes over the years and so do the health conditions involved. Sexually transmitted infections can occur at any age and gender and can lead to serious secondary infections and diseases if not diagnosed and treated correctly. As women age their hormone levels change leading to fluctuations in the menstrual cycle and ultimately menopause. These hormone changes can cause other side effects such as low libido, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, hot flashes, night sweats, and difficulty sleeping.
Sleep is one of the foundations of health which is why I love working with it. I love getting my sleep and know how much it affects my cognition, mood, and functioning if I get poor quality sleep or not enough sleep. Poor sleep can cause many other health conditions including hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases, depression, anxiety, metabolic syndrome, neurological diseases, and hormone imbalances.
